Irish Oaks Value ? Oh Goodness Me !

bolger3.jpgLots of rain is forecast at the Curragh and if it arrives there could be a shock in store. I liked Midday initially but very soft ground would be a concern, equally so for her Epsom conqueror Sariska. Although they both ran well over 12f at Epsom, very soft ground could see their stamina stretched to the limit, it’s worth bearing in mind that both are bred by sprinters so I think at least a couple of places are up for grabs here. The obvious alternative is Beauty O’Gwaun but she is relatively inexperienced and the first-time blinkers are not what I would want to see really with the step up in class.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Jim Bolger’s OH GOODNESS ME can run a big race and at odds of 16/1 looks well worth an win/place bet. She was a well-backed 8/1 shot at Epsom but ruined her chance by pulling too hard early. If she can settle better, this Galileo filly is capable of springing a surprise particularly if the rains arrive as there will be no stamina doubts. She was a fair but outpaced 3rd to Again on heavy ground in the Irish 1000 Guineas and won a GP3 at the Curragh on heavy ground so conditions could swing in her favour. I’m willing to forgive her Oaks run as the ground was also probably a bit lively for her there and it did come quickly, just 12 days after the Irish 1000 slog.

Bolger has not had a great season but he has fired in a couple of winners the last few days and with doubts surrounding the front 2 in the market’s effectiveness on soft going, the 3rd on the ratings rates the value call as she is clear 3rd best on official ratings also.

Here are the rest of Sunday’s ratings. There will be no ratings on Monday and Tuesday as I am taking a few days off but will be back for Wednesday. Good Luck with your punting and feel free to donate even just a few quid if you have won this week as there have been some decent winners.
