2-y-o ratings Friday 31 July

Thursday was a good day for the ratings, there were only four races rated but the top-two rated included the winners of each race at 4/1, 7/2, 6/4 & 13/2. Two of them were also highlighted in my introduction.

Friday has twice as many races to cover, including two trappy nurseries. If the SP forecasts are to be believed there could be a bit of value about tomorrow. The Richmond Stakes is a very disappointing renewal and appears to be Group 2 in name only. I have Dick Turpin as top-rated and he at least has form with give in the ground unlike some of the other fancied runners. I really like Showcasing but he only has fast ground form so far as he hasn’t encountered any soft to-date. The Nursery at Goodwood (4:35) looks a nightmare at first glance but I will be all over THE HUMAN LEAGUE each-way if he is 12/1 in the morning. I think he is on attractive mark and am inclined to forgive him his last run. He’s owned by Findlay so I suggest anyone backing him takes an early price (after non-runners) certainly not a case of “Don’t You Want Me?“!

In the first race at Bath (6:05) some of the fancied runners have to give lumps of weight away to LITTLE BRAZILIEN and I have her rated to be competitive off her low weight at a decent price.

At Haydock (6:45) I will be taking on the fancied runners with Regardless and Fibs And Flannel who I have joint top-rated the latter is forecast to go off at 25/1 so for small stakes they are worth a punt, it would be a nice forecast!

I must also mention KYLLADDIE in the Nursery (7:20) a horse I have followed this season. He was very disappointing last time out after an impressive maiden win but got in a right state before the race and lost his chance before the stalls opened. Now gelded, if that operation has had the desired effect he could be on a really nice mark on his handicap debut. I have him as about 2/1 favourite but the post are forecasting 7/2 third fav.
