Ryan Moore is widely acclaimed to be one of the best flat racing jockeys in the business, finding a profitable angle with him though, is quite another matter. For sure, he has a 20% strike-rate since 2009 but loses -9.4% Yield and -542 points. In Class 2 handicaps it's even worse with a -19% Yield.

Compare that to Andrea Atzeni who, since 2009, has shown a +22% Yield and +106pts profit in Class 2 handicaps and indeed, if you back all his mounts blindly since 2009, you would +480pts in profit with a +10% Yield – that is quite an achievement from nearly 5000 rides.

Atzeni has already shown his skills in the saddle at Goodwood this week and is in red-hot form with a 182% Yield in the last fortnight. Today, in the Stewards Cup, he takes the mount on the Mick Easterby, rank outsider PERFECT PASTURE. Now, the form of Easterby is a slight concern but it's factored into the price. What isn't factored into the price is the sheer outright ability of Atzeni to give it his all in the big races and his current hot streak. The horse also has a pretty good record winning 10 of his 37 career runs with a huge 148% Yield. OK, half-dozen of those wins came in a row back in 2013 but he has won a big Curragh handicap last year and a decent contest in May at Windsor. He also goes particularly well with some juice in the ground and I don't ever worry about the draw as there is too much variance with regards to such analysis. Expect to see him produced late and fast and outrun his current Betfair odds of 60.

Win or lose today though, keep in mind that Atzeni stat whenever you are contemplating a bet, especially in the big handicap races.
